Background
Case study · Goa. A private theatre in deep red, sculptural sound in the living spaces and music in every room, woven quietly into a villa in Goa.

The brief: made for slow days
In Goa, this private villa is built for long days and late evenings: timber trusses overhead, stone underfoot and living spaces that open to the light.
The owners wanted a home for holidays with family and friends: a room for films that feels like a night at the cinema, music that fills the living spaces, and none of it competing with the architecture.
Avenue Sound delivered the complete audio-visual layer: a dedicated home theatre, designed and calibrated by our team; a quiet, clean media wall and sculptural speakers in the living spaces; and music across 6 independent audio zones, each able to play on its own or join the whole home. Completed in 2024.

The challenge: beautiful rooms are rarely kind to sound
Stone floors, tall pitched ceilings and wide openings make rooms lively and full of echoes. In a home designed with this much care, the brief was clear: the technology should be felt, not seen.
The approach: designed in from the outset
We worked alongside the design team from the outset, so every speaker location, cable route and equipment position was resolved with the interiors rather than around them. In the theatre, speakers sit behind fabric and within the walls and ceiling, and the controls are kept to a minimum. In the living room, the screen and soundbar sit flush on a calm wall, and the speakers were chosen to read as objects, not equipment.

The theatre
Behind a single door lies a room made for films. Deep red walls, tiered recliners and a dark ceiling with a sculptural pendant give it the feel of a private cinema, and a 240-inch diagonal projection screen gives it the scale.
“Architects give us beautiful rooms. Our job is to make them perform, without asking the design to compromise.”
Ashish Hingorani, Managing Director, Avenue Sound India
Soft wall lights and ceiling lights set the mood before the film begins.

Calibration: the step most installations skip
With a measurement microphone at the seats, our team measured how the room actually behaves and tuned the system until it sounded right from every seat, not just the best one. Dialogue stays clear and the experience feels consistent wherever you sit.
“A room isn’t finished when the last speaker goes in. It’s finished when it sounds right from every seat.”
Ashish Hingorani, Managing Director, Avenue Sound India

Living, with music in the room
The living room. Under the timber trusses, the speakers were chosen to sit with the furniture: round, dark and sculptural, so music fills the room while they read as part of the décor.

The media wall. The screen and soundbar sit flush on a calm, uncluttered wall, so the room looks finished whether the screen is on or off. Music can play here on its own or join the rest of the home, one of 6 independent audio zones across the villa.
“The best compliment we hear is when guests ask where the music is coming from.”
Ashish Hingorani, Managing Director, Avenue Sound India
