Project Description
High Rise Apartment gets that Cinema Feeling in their Living Room, Makes the Living Room Smarter, and ensures that every corner is fully equipped for WFH.
Background
The pandemic has certainly caused difficulty in going to a Cinema Hall and watching the latest releases or even catching up on some favorite movies which may still be running. What do you do if you are a part of one of the production companies who releases these movies? Work must go on, even if it cannot be at the local theatre. Well if you are like our client you create a well-planned Cinematic Experience in your own home and ensure your personal collection of films continues to get the attention they deserve.
Continuing with the pandemic theme and working from home, ensuring you are set up with the latest technology, fastest speeds and WiFi in every single nook and corner of your residence is probably one of the most important factors in integrating a new home. After all, almost everything is connected to your home network now.
And now that so much time is being spent at home, it only makes sense to make your home smarter and control all these new gadgets with the sound of your voice or by pressing a single button. In the Cinema Halls, the lights dim as soon as the movie begins so why not bring that same experience to your living room?

Our clients had done a lot of research for the exact speakers they wanted to integrate into their immersive audio setup. The challenge was to place the speakers correctly to not interrupt the Architect’s Design but also ensure we receive the best listening experience. Polk Audio bookshelf speakers mounted using custom made bookshelf speaker mounts from the pelmet designed to hide the projection screen. That way they were not encompassing any of the floor space but could be angled downwards to reach the main listening position. In-Ceiling speakers by RBH for the Surround and Atmos speakers along with a Polk Audio 12 inch subwoofer to round out the 5.1.2 setup.

Our clients had also finalized the Sony HW-45ES projector after doing some careful research and we suggested using the Screen Innovations 100 inch diagonal Solo Pro with this projector and ambient light rejecting fabric since the brightness of this projector is not very high. We wanted to ensure even if the projector is being viewed for sporting events or scenarios where there will be ambient light in the room the viewer can still enjoy the experience and not have to see a whitewashed image.
Smart Lighting and Window Shadings

The smart lighting and window shadings for this residence were integrated into the Living and Dining Rooms. During the initial project brief, we explained to the clients the advantage of controlling your entire Home Theater from a single Universal Remote and creating scenes that will close your curtains and dim your lights when you begin a movie. This would really help to complete the cinematic experience.

The entire system was controlled using Savant and we integrated KNX lighting and switching actuators for the lighting and curtains along with a sleek Keypad by Ekinex. The homeowners become so comfortable with the system and found it so easy to use they begin to create their own scenes and controlled their entire setup using Alexa within the first few days.
Networking and WiFi

As you can imagine, a project of this level with the amount of integrated devices requires a strong and stable network as its backbone. We provisioned the entire network backbone using Engenius Networking Switches and Access Points. For the Access Points, we used the Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LITE strategically placed throughout the residence for maximum coverage and bandwidth. Two pieces of the extremely fast and robust Ubiquiti US-8-60W was used for speed interconnectivity between the local IP devices. On the routing side, we chose the ER-X by Ubiquiti to facilitate all routing duties in the project.
The gigabit network was fast and ensured that the clients did not face any delays when issuing commands to their automation system or streaming any media throughout the residence.
Final Verdict
After a proper audio calibration of the AV system and a thorough training session on how to operate the automation system, the clients were thrilled to finally have their Home Cinema and Smart Home which was so easy to use and looked and sounded amazing. We also truly enjoyed the entire experience of working on this project because the clients and architects were so friendly and easy to work with.
